NYFW SS16: STELLA NOLASCO

STELLA NOLASCO
SS16 FASHION SHOW

Hello dolls!

After showing you some of my looks for NYFW and carrying you around Manhattan (here) and Chelsea (here), I want to share with you some of my favorite collections from this New York Fashion Week.

The first designer I want to present you is a young Puerto Rican woman called Stella Nolasco
Stella fits among the names of the many Latin American designers who have long tread the catwalks of international fashion: think of Proenza Schouler, Narciso Rodriguez, Carolina Herrera, Angel Sanchez and Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein. Her designs have a strong connection with her roots and her land: indeed, after the SS15 line - that took inspiration by the cult of the santos de palo in Puerto Rico - here comes "Pomarosa", her new Spring collection which is inspired by the verses of the puertorriqueño poet José de Diego.

The idea is accurate: there is something poetic in these clothes, something dreamy and whimsical that is mature and thoughtful at the same time - suitable for a woman of our days who knows how to be sophisticated without being cloying. Stella Nolasco’s dresses are filled with traditions , because they recall the nostalgia of another era; they bring to your mind visions of a delicate, aristocratic and ethereal femininity. When they walk down the runway, you can almost smell the talcum, the rouge, the face powder and the hairspray when - those refined and polished gestures of our grandmothers and our mothers who would get ready in their rooms before a night out, taking care of every single detail.

CHELSEA GIRL

CHELSEA GIRL
NYFW DAY 3
Hello dolls!

As I told you in my last post, today I wanted to take you for a walk around Chelsea, which is among the coolest and my favorite boroughs of New York: here is were you can find trendy boutiques and bars, several model agencies, showrooms, art galleries and iconic places like Carrie’s House at 66 Perry Street, the Chelsea Piers sports center and the famous Magnolia Bakery – that fashion aficionados will recognize from "The Devil Wears Prada," "Sex & the City "and the book "Shopaholic Ties the Knot " by Sophie Kinsella.

I love New York because there is something beautiful around every corner, even where you do not expect beauty she manifests before you as the twist in a movie. And I really like this area because it’s very green, with tree-lined boulevards and the early 20th century buildings that we usually see in American films: everything here is more relaxed, easy and chic compared to the center of Manhattan, but at night the area awakens and becomes one of the most lively spots of the nightlife.

UNA SIRENA A MANHATTAN

UNA SIRENA A MANHATTAN
NYFW DAY 2

In this post I wanted to give you a hint of Manhattan at night, because it is a unique show, a picture in fluorescent colors, a work of contemporary art that is worth seeing. If Paris is a moveable feast - as Hemingway said - New York is the after party, and it's nice to enjoy it until dawn, when the day breaks and you can admire the light of a new day from the High Line or from the peak of a skyscraper.

Light is the dominant theme of this city, the first that catches your eye, the one that impresses you the most: the blinding headlights of taxis whizzing on three-lane roads; the pink and blue neons that reflects on the asphalt still wet of rain; the signs of the old cafes and bars winking in the distance, and the billions of lighted windows that stand out against the dark silhouettes of the skyscrapers all around. Manhattan at night looks like an amusement park full of stalls and kiosks selling hot dogs and falafels, where the subway looks like an underground roller coaster, Central Park is a carousel of white horses, and the Fifth Avenue turns into the hall of mirrors, with all those sparkling and inviting windows of the most famous names in fashion.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK

NYFW: DAY 1

New York, New York!

I had never been to the Big Apple, but now I understand why so many writers, poets, filmmakers and photographers had been so fascinated by this city that they wanted to capture it in their works!
New York is not a city: it is the world reduced to a scale of 1 to 100, a lively kaleidoscope of ethnicities, cultures, religions, colors and styles which come together in a polyphonic choir, a jazz tune, a street rap or a Broadway musical.

AND THE LADYBOY GOES TO...

#LADYNEWYORK

There are moments in your life that you want to share with the people you love and those you are closest to, and this is definitely one of those moments.
I know it’s not exactly "us chickens" here (we reached 14,600 on my Facebook page – yay!) but since you’ve been following me with patience and love for a year or so I wanted to share this great news: I'm going to NEW YORK!

Well, yes!: in few hours I will be packing my suitcase and go halfway around the world to follow in first person the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, and honestly, I cannot wait anymore!
